About Worldcoin
Proof of personhood is the premise of Worldcoin, built by Tools for Humanity, co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, and opened to the public in 2023. People scan their irises with a hardware device called the Orb, which generates a unique cryptographic identifier — World ID — intended to prove that an account belongs to a distinct human without revealing who that human is. The project later launched World Chain, an OP Stack layer two on Ethereum, to host its identity and payment applications and to give verified humans priority blockspace.
