About Arbitrum
Scaling Ethereum through optimistic rollups is the job of Arbitrum, developed by Offchain Labs and launched to the public in 2021. Transactions execute on Arbitrum One off the base chain, with batched data posted to Ethereum and an interactive fraud-proof game allowing any honest party to challenge an invalid state root during the challenge window. The stack also includes Nova for high-throughput low-cost applications and Stylus, which lets contracts be written in languages compiling to WebAssembly. Notably, gas on Arbitrum is paid in ETH, not in ARB: the token exists for governance of the DAO treasury and protocol parameters, giving it no direct fee-capture role.
