About Tezos
Self-amendment is the organising idea behind Tezos, which raised one of the largest token sales of 2017 and launched in 2018 under founders Arthur and Kathleen Breitman with the Tezos Foundation stewarding funds. Its liquid proof-of-stake design lets holders delegate to bakers without locking coins, and an on-chain governance process allows protocol upgrades to be proposed, voted on and adopted without hard forks, a mechanism it has used many times. XTZ has continuous inflationary staking issuance with a very high participation rate, meaning holders who do not delegate are diluted; the protocol's Tezos X and Etherlink work later added an EVM-compatible rollup layer. Historically the token is associated with a difficult early period: launch was delayed by litigation between the founders and the foundation, and a US class-action over the 2017 sale was eventually settled, an overhang that took years to clear.
