About Raydium
Raydium is an automated market maker on Solana, launched in early 2021, that originally distinguished itself by routing its pool liquidity into the Serum central limit order book so that passive liquidity providers were also quoting on an order book. After Serum was abandoned in the wake of FTX's collapse, Raydium rebuilt on a forked order book and shifted toward standard AMM pools, concentrated liquidity and a permissionless token launch venue. RAY is emitted to liquidity providers, can be staked, and carries governance weight, while a portion of trading fees is directed to buying RAY from the market.
In December 2022 an attacker compromised a pool owner account key and drained several million dollars from liquidity pools — a private-key failure rather than a contract logic flaw — and the protocol subsequently compensated affected users. Supply is capped at 555 million with a multi-year emission schedule for farming and team allocations. The token's revenue-linked design means its price has tracked Solana trading volume closely, and the 2024 memecoin boom drove exceptional fee capture. That relationship cuts both ways: when Pump.fun launched its own AMM in 2025 and stopped graduating tokens onto Raydium, the loss of volume share became the dominant structural risk.
