About Terra Luna Classic
Terra Luna Classic is the original Terra chain, renamed after its collapse; the ticker LUNC refers to the pre-crash token and is distinct from the LUNA of the replacement chain. Built by Terraform Labs under Do Kwon, the network paired an algorithmic stablecoin, UST, with LUNA in a mint-and-burn mechanism meant to hold the dollar peg. In May 2022 UST depegged, the arbitrage mechanism hyperinflated the token supply into the trillions, and validators halted the chain twice. The community subsequently forked to a new chain, leaving the original running as Terra Classic, now maintained by volunteers.
LUNC is best understood as a distressed post-collapse asset. Its supply is measured in trillions after the emergency minting, and the community adopted an on-chain burn tax to reduce it — at a rate far too slow to meaningfully reverse the dilution. There is no institutional sponsor and limited developer resourcing. Trading is driven by burn-proposal news, exchange policy changes and speculative retail interest, with occasional violent short-lived rallies.
